Biography

Professor Aighewi is a natural scientist with formal educational background that includes: Bachelors and Master of Science degrees (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) in Plant and Soil Sciences from Tuskegee University in Alabama (USA) in 1982 and 1985 respectively, a PhD degree in Soil Science from University of Minnesota (USA), in 1988, a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Environmental Health Sciences from Columbia University in New York City, NY (USA) in 1992, and a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Sciences (GC-GIS) from Indiana-Purdue University in Indianapolis Indiana (USA), in 2003. He also attended and received numerous certificates from Harvard University, University of Edmonton Alberta, Canada etc.His professional career as a Scientist and educator spanning 34 years in 2017 started as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Tuskegee University, USA in January 1983, and have included several other positions that includes Doctoral Graduate Research Assistant in the USDA-ARS Laboratory of the University of Minnesota; Research Associate in Columbia University, New York; Visiting Lecturer and Lecturer in University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland USA; Associate Professor and Professor of Environmental Science/Health at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Professor Aighewi also worked as a Faculty Fellow/Expert for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) Zone 5 in Chicago in 2010; Lecturer I in the Faculty of Agriculture in University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria; Visiting Professor (Assoc) and currently Professor of Environmental Management and Toxicology (Environmental Chemistry and GIS Applications) in the Faculty of Life Sciences in University of Benin, Benin City. Professor Aighewi worked briefly (1yr.) for Indiana Department of Environmental Management as an Environmental Scientist III in the Air Quality Division, and also as a Visiting Scientist at the Savanna Nuclear Solutions of the Savanna River Site National laboratory in Aiken, South Carolina, USA.
